Leadership

A Note From Renewal Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody

Throughout my time as a teacher, coach and superintendent, I have seen public schools—and as a result, our students—suffer under one-size-fits-all laws. I’ve seen our education system fail children by not engaging their unique smartness or their passion, because they didn’t have the flexibility to do so. I’ve seen rigid test scores determine a child’s future.

Think of yourself when you were in school. Did you have a teacher who inspired you? Did you feel like you truly knew what the world of education and career options had to offer? Did you have instructors who made connections for you between your math, science and literature classes, making them fun? Do the students you know have all this?

At Rowan-Salisbury, we get to consider all these questions—and then we get to design our curriculums and learning experiences to ensure that students are engaged and excited to come to class. And we know our bold vision is already working. Recently, in one Renewal classroom, after the semester ended several students asked to go back to class and work on their projects. For no credit. Just because they enjoyed the class and became passionate about their projects.

The Renewal model doesn’t focus on test scores—our goal is to prepare students for real-world success. The model is centered around each student’s learning style, interpersonal skills, their academic talents and their passions. Hands-on and visual learners are getting as much out of their courses as students who learn by listening or reading. As a result, students are excited to learn.

THAT’S what we’re unlocking here at Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
